ANNOUNCEMENTS

(Points discussed at the meeting held on February 22, 2010)

1.         We thank all the lectors for their active participation in the annual get-together. Thanks to Erwin and Alfredo for comparing the event and getting all lectors to participate. All lectors who had confirmed their attendance are reminded to pay their contribution.

2.         We welcome Sindu Samuel back from her wedding holidays. We hope to see her spouse join the ministry.

3.         Fr. Vincent informed all that we should be saying Responsorial Psalm and go directly to the response. We should not say “Your response is”

4.         All are informed that henceforth, we will gather in the sacristy and move towards the pew from there. However, this arrangement is on a temporary basis, till the priests are satisfied that the lectors do not make noise out there. Any discussions/clarifications on the readings should be done outside the sacristy.

5.         All are informed that there are changes to the roster at every meeting, so every lector should check the rosters on the website, in the file or on the notice board.

6.         All to note that a list with the members’ contact details has been kept in the lectors’ file.

7.         It is reiterated that the stand-by lector gets the 1st preference when a rostered lector is absent. No nominated lectors should be allowed to read when the stand-by lector is present.

8.         Any lector who comes in late for mass (though before the beginning of mass) should not claim their reading and will be marked absent for that mass.

9.         Henceforth, only the mass monitor will mark P for present, E for excused and A for absent. The lectors should not sign the roster.

10.     All are informed that since there is a pew reserved for the lectors, the lectors not reading for that mass as well should come forward and occupy the pew.

11.     When there is a holy hour and/or Stations of the Cross, all were informed that they should come before the beginning of these services and occupy the pew. It looks awkward to ask lay people to vacate the pew once these services are over.

12.     It was reiterated that the lector when rostered should only do the readings and not serve other ministries at that time, unless the situation demands so.

13.     All are reminded that when they go up to the altar to check their reading, they should note the page number so that there is no confusion in case the pages flip or the book is closed by someone.

14.     It is agreed that the lector doing the announcement would go up and stand beside the altar server while the prayer for priests is being said.

15.     All lectors are notified that when they are absent for a certain meeting, they should look up the website to see the points that were discussed at the meeting. Alternatively, they should check with fellow lectors or the mass monitors for the points discussed to avoid confusion during mass.

16.     The Holy Hour for the month of March will be held on March 5th at 4pm followed by the Stations of the Cross. All lectors to attend.

17.     The Deepening of the Faith session will be held on 13th March at 7:30pm. Please attend.

18.     The practice session for members rostered for the Holy Week services will be on 15th March at 6:30pm in the MPH. All rostered lectors to attend. The roster for the same shall be emailed shortly.

19.     The reflections for the next meeting to be done on the 4 Sundays of the following month (April) i.e. Easter Sunday, 2nd, 3rd & 4th Sunday of Easter. The groups to assign a leader. The group heads namely Vero Lobo for Group 1, Ashwin Pinto for Group 2, Vincent Lisboa for Group 3 and Barbara Pinto for Group 4 to coordinate with the group members.

20.     The Family Day 2010 will be held on 16th April. All working members to contribute BD 2/- to meet the stall expenses.

21.     As Tiburcio and Jacintha have crossed their 2 year tenure as coordinators, Fr. Vincent asked all the members to nominate 3 other lectors, write their names on a piece of paper and give it to him by the weekend.

22.     As lectors, all of us should read the Word of God everyday and be aware which cycle and which week of the year we are in.

23.     Our young lectors are preparing themselves for their exams. Please keep them in your prayers.

24.     The next lectors’ meeting will be held on 22nd March at 7pm in the AV room. All lectors to attend.
