Altar Servers' Installation 2009 - 2010

The Liturgy Ministry of the Malayalam Community has revamped the existing group of Altar Servers along with the new group of children willing to serve at the Lord's Table. 

The intention was to raise the Malayalam Community Altar Service to a Ministry level,  in line with the Parish Altar Service Ministry in terms of formal training, regulations, and duty expectations.  This will equip our children to fully understand the serious nature of the service they volunteered for, and also enable them to fulfill their commitment to the Lord in a more meaningful way.

The current group of 36 children have been informed of the demands the Altar Service Ministry will make on their time and energy, and made aware of the discipline this service entails. The older servers were offered a refresher session of the service procedures, and these ten seniors were appointed as leaders for the newly formed five groups. The new children were given hands-on training at the altar and all procedures explained to them in detail.   More training sessions will be organized in the coming months as and when required. 

With the preliminary round of training completed, the Installation Ceremony was held on Friday, 11th December 2009, during the Malayalam Mass at 7.00 p.m. in the Multi Purpose Hall of the Sacred Heart Church.  As our Spiiritual Director, Rev. Fr. Joy Menachery led the children in taking their pledge to serve the Lord in obedience and humility, he emphasised the importance of the annointing the children were receiving for the special service they had chosen.

The Altar Servers  reported experiencing a sense of solemnity  added to their service pledge as a result of this formal ceremony, and the event was very well received by the Community members.
